Frequently Asked Questions
How does this game work?
Strum Surfer uses your microphone to listen to your guitar. During the quick calibration step, you strum your chords 3 times so the game learns the unique frequencies of your guitar.
Once calibrated, your guitar becomes the game controller!
Who is this game for?
Strum Surfer is perfect for anyone looking for motivation to play and practice their guitar more often.
It is great for players wanting to smooth out their chord changes, and for music teachers who want to use it with their students to make learning and practicing chords fun.
What equipment do I need?
All you need is a real guitar (acoustic or electric) and a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer with a working microphone. There are no extra cables or hardware needed!
We process all audio directly in the web browser.
Can I play with other instruments?
Strum Surfer is designed for guitar chords (like G, C, D, Em), but as long as your instrument can produce distinct tones that you can strum or sustain consistently, the custom pitch analyzer can learn them!
I welcome all singers / violinists / pianists / other musicians to try!
Can I use the music visualizers to create my own content?
Yes! If you're a musician who wants to make spotify canvas art or music videos with the visualizers, please feel free to use your creations online however you'd like.
Which web browsers are supported?
Strum Surfer is fully supported on all modern web browsers with microphone access, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Brave, and Edge.
Just be sure to click "Allow" when the browser requests microphone access so the game can hear and calibrate your guitar chords!
Does it work on mobile phones or tablets?
Yes! Strum Surfer is fully optimized for mobile devices.
As long as your phone or tablet has a working microphone and you open the game in a modern browser (like Chrome), you can play!
What happens with my data?
Your privacy is our priority. No audio or video is stored or transmitted to external servers.
It all gets processed completely locally in real-time inside your web browser and never leaves your device.
I need help or have a question!
If you run into issues, try moving to a quieter place or bringing your mic closer to your instrument.
For further support, please reach out via email.
How much does this cost?
Strum Surfer is a $10 one-time payment. There are no recurring subscription costs, no ads, and no hidden fees.
Once purchased, you get full lifetime access to everything, and all future mini-games and updates are provided free of charge!
